It was a close tussle between Ba Provincial Secondary School and Cuvu College in the Vodafone Deans Trophy competition at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka where the Lautoka-based school prevailed 25-17 yesterday.

Ba Provincial lead 10-5 at halftime as both schools were hungry for a win. Cuvu College showed glimpses of the champion team they are but Ba Provincial dominated in all facets of the game in the second-half.

Team manageress Margaret Brown said she was happy with the effort shown from her players to topple a champion team like Cuvu.

“This is definitely a very remarkable win for us,” said Brown.

“We were looking forward to making a difference in this game and I was telling them on our way here that Cuvu is not an easy team to beat but we trusted our processes and the result speaks for itself. I am very proud of what these players had achieved here today (yesterday).”

Brown thanked her players in doing a remarkable job, balancing school work and sports.

“It had been really challenging for them with everything happening around the world through COVID. They did well in the first term with rugby league and balancing exam preparations and training, it is truly amazing to see and I am glad they balanced their time well.”

Meanwhile in the WeetBix Raluve Cup under-18 competition, Cuvu College toppled Navosa Central College 26-15 while Sigatoka Methodist College pipped their counterparts Sigatoka Valley Secondary School 12-10.
