The new players in the Vodafone Flying Fijians squad are expected to raise some eyebrows during the Pacific Nations Cup tournament.

Sixteen players from the Fijian Drua side have been named in the extended squad and a few are even expected to take the field when they take on Tonga in their first game this Saturday.

Flying Fijians captain Levani Botia, who is expected to be rested for the first match, said the new players had been gelling well in camp.

“For all the new boys that have joined the team it is great to have them. Even for me watching them play each game of the Super Rugby,” Botia said.

The 33-year-old La Rochelle centre says the Fijian Drua boys will get a chance to prove why they deserve to wear the Fijian jumper.

“It must not have been easy. They put their hands up every weekend. They have proven that they deserve to be here so it will be really exciting to play with them in the matches coming up.”

The Fijian Drua players were selected in the squad after an impressive performance in their maiden Super Rugby season.

The PNC will give these players a good opportunity to impress the coaching panel for the upcoming international commitments of the Flying Fijians.

The Flying Fijians play Tonga in its opening match of the PNC at 3.30pm at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this Saturday.
