Queen Victoria School senior boy Ilisavani Nadovu outran his competitors to win gold in the senior boys’ 200 metres event on Friday at day two of the Tailevu Coca-Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium in Laucala Bay.

Nadovu was lost for words after his winning run.

“I would like to first and foremost thank God for giving me the strength to run in that race,” said Nadovu.

“All my preparations for the past few weeks finally paid off and I will now shift focus towards preparing for the Coca-Cola Games. I know it will not be easy as every athlete across the nation will be preparing well too. I will just stick to enhancing my performance and to try and improve my time. I can achieve it but I will have to do the hard yards first.” Nadovu thanked his school mates and family members for always believing in him.

“I would like to thank my schoolmates and brothers for always pushing us during training. We would not be here if it were not for your endless words of encouragement,” Nadovu said.

“A special mention too goes out to my parents and all the athletes parents for providing us with adequate support and for constantly cheering for us these past two days. This gold medal is for you and I hope I can gift you another gold medal at the Coca-Cola Games come August.”
